Securus Technologies, Inc. Announced a Contract to Install an Advanced Inmate Phone System in the Van Buren County Jail
Securus Technologies, Inc. a leading provider of inmate communication services and innovative offender and case management software design, today announced it signed an agreement with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department on March 10, 2009 to install, operate, and maintain a sophisticated call management network that will provide the Sheriff’s office with advanced investigative capabilities to monitor inmate calling activities.

Sgt. Ray Guminski of the Van Buren Sheriff’s Department stated,” We’re looking forward to the overall product that Securus will be providing. The investigative tools, remote access for investigators, and revenue that will be significant for us.”

System highlights:
  • Increased Revenues- Like most correctional facilities, Van Buren County relies on revenues from inmate’s calls to assist in the expense incurred to house inmates in the facility. Revenues also are allocated towards providing a better more secure environment, for the inmate population. The new Securus Technologies SCP inmate communication system will increase the communications opportunities for friends and family members making it easier for them to stay in touch with loved ones who are incarcerated. These increased communication capabilities will generate additional revenues for the facility, which will help keep the cost of operation from affecting the local taxpayers tax rate.
  • Single Point Access - The old system required personnel to maneuver through multiple access points to perform their duties. The new systems single-point command center eliminates this time consuming requirement, freeing up officers to perform duties that will increase the security for the staff as well as the inmate population
  • Increased Crime Fighting Capabilities - The systems anywhere, anytime access provides the Van Buren’s investigators with vital investigative tools from anywhere in the field. This new capability was a major requirement of the jail to assure they maintained an advantage over the increased sophistication of today’s criminal;
Ralph Groves, local Sales Representative for Securus stated that, “continued interaction with the County and our strong presence in the state of Michigan helped bring this site into the Securus family of partnering facilities.” With the addition of Van Buren County, Securus will be serving 68 of the states’ 81 County facilities. The expected installation will take place the week of April 13, 2009 and will provide twenty-five telephones for the inmate population of 151.
